Chen served as a fellow student at Keening Military Academy before being conscripted into the Nikara Army during the Nansha conflict. His role in the war was primarily that of an infantryman and comrade to Rin, providing a baseline for normalcy against her supernatural rise. He maintained close friendships with Zetian and Yun Shu early on, sharing dormitory life and study sessions. However, as political tensions rose, his ideals clashed with the growing ruthlessness required by the Empire's command structure. Ultimately, Chen did not survive the war.
